Pursuant to Article 22 of the Information Society Services and E-Commerce Law, in addition to Preamble (30) of the GDPR, you are hereby informed that this website uses both own and third-party cookies for different purposes. What are cookies?
Cookies are files that may be downloaded onto your device by websites. These tools play an essential role providing a variety of information society services. This includes allowing the website to store and recover information about a user or device’s browsing habits and, depending on the information offered, they can be used to recognise the user and improve the service offered.
Types of cookies
Depending on the party responsible for managing the domain from which cookies are sent and for processing the data obtained, cookies can be divided into two types:
- Own cookies: those sent to the user’s terminal from a device or domain managed by the editor and from which the service requested by the user is provided.
- Third-party cookies: those sent to the user’s terminal from a device or domain not managed by the editor, rather, by another party which processed the data obtained via the cookies.
Cookies installed by a device or domain managed by the editor, but for which the information collected is managed by a third party, cannot be considered own cookies. There is also a second classification depending on the amount of time that they are stored on the customer’s browser, either:
- Session cookies: designed to gather and store data while the user remains active on a website. They tend to be used to store information that only needs to be maintained to provide the service requested by the user for a single occasion (for example, a list of products purchased).
- Persistent cookies: data that remains stored on the terminal and that may be accessed and processed for a period of time defined by the party responsible for the cookie, ranging from minutes to several years.
Finally, there is another classification method, with five types of cookies depending on the purpose with which data is obtained:
- Technical cookies: those allowing the user to browse a website, platform or app and use the different options or services it provides, such as, for example, control traffic and data communication, identify the session, access restricted sections, remember parts of an order, process a purchase, enrol or participate in an event, use security elements while browsing, store content to broadcast videos or sound and share content via social media.
- Customisation cookies: allow the user to access the service with a number of general predefined characteristics depending on a series of criteria on the user terminal, such as language, type of browser used to access the service, regional configuration from which the service is being accessed, etc.
- Analysis cookies: allow the party responsible for them to monitor and analyse the behaviour of the users of the website with which they are associated. The information gathered using this type of cookies is used to measure the activity of websites, app or platform and to prepare browsing profiles for the users of these websites, apps and platforms, with the aim of making improvements based on the analysis of data as regards the use made by service users.
- Advertising cookies: facilitate the effective management of advertising spaces.
- Behavioural advertising cookies: store information on user behaviour obtained by continuously observing their browser habits, making it possible to develop a specific profile to display advertising tailored to the behaviour in question.
- External social media cookies: used to allow visitors to interact with content on different social media platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) and generated exclusively for the users of these social media platforms. The use conditions of these cookies and the information gathered are regulated by the privacy policy of the corresponding social media platform.
