PROJECTS
PERIFEED®
Adaptation of a conventional central feed decanter to a perimeter feed one.
Client
Project developed internally by GS Inima.
Objectives
-
Operate with bigger hydraulic loads and therefore, a bigger treatment capacity.
-
Reduce energy consumption in the treatment of sludges.
This project took second prize at the 4th Awards for the Best Innovative Idea at GS Inima in 2017 and resulted in Perifeed® being registered as a trademark as part of GS Inima’s technology portfolio.
OSCAR
Subcritical Oxidation of Wastewater.
Collaboration with
ECOLOTUM
Objectives
-
Resolve management problems and the costs of sludge production at WWTPs.
-
Complete elimination of sludge at a WWTP, producing only H2O and CO2.
-
Demonstrate the economic feasibility of OSCAR® technology.
PRONOX
Development of non-oxidative processes for the elimination of organic matter for the treatment of urban wastewater.
Funded by
Centre for Technical Industrial Development (CDTI).
Objectives
-
Reduce the energy consumption of a WWTP by 40-45% by decreasing the consumption of electricity in the biological process and increasing the production of biogas that can supply the plant with electricity.
-
Reduce the sludge generated by 10%.
The purpose of the PRONOX project is to develop a new technology that allows the derivation of organic matter and nitrogen to Anaerobic Digestion before the Active Sludge stage with a dual environmental purpose: the reduction of energy consumption of wastewater treatments and a reduction in the generation of sludge as a by-product.
GRANULAR BED
Development of a system based on aerobic granular sludge (AGS) for the removal of nutrients and organic matter in urban wastewater treatment.
Funded by
Centre for Technical Industrial Development (CDTI)
Objectives
-
Obtain new knowledge of granular aerobic sludge processes
-
Design and develop a semi-industrial pilot plant with a zero or null energy balance
-
Trial different operating systems at the pilot plant on a demonstration basis and to validate the technology
Design and development of a system to eliminate organic matter, nitrogen and phosphor, based on granular aerobic sludge, which combined with the HRAS process as a preliminary stage, increases the production of biogas and electricity, simultaneously guaranteeing an effluent quality fit for discharge.

R&D&i REPORT
Every year, GS Inima publishes a specialized report containing actions performed in relation to R&D&i.
Stakeholders may learn about the organization’s innovation strategy and policy or consult its trademarks or recognition received over the years.
DECLARATION OF THE R&D&i VISION AND STRATEGY
The business strategy of GS Inima places a major emphasis on R&D&i, in particular following its inclusion in the GS Group.
The Group’s policies include its activity-based technology development, with its own units dedicated exclusively to R&D&i. GS Inima has signed up to this policy, with its own R&D&i department, which is currently undergoing expansion.
R&D&i AWARDS
Award for the Best Innovative Idea (2020)
In its 7th edition, GS Inima has organized awards for the best innovative idea, to recognize and reward innovative ideas made by company employees and encourage their subsequent implementation.
This initiative allows GS Inima employees to become involved and commit to the R&D&i policy and disseminate best practices arising in day-to-day operations. It is thus possible to generate and disseminate new ideas that create solutions and encourage initiatives and practices that contribute to the increase in productivity and efficiency.
The Award for the Best Innovative Idea 2020 was granted to the proposal named “DESTINO CERTO”, by COMASA, run by GS Inima Brazil in the town of Santa Rita do Passa Quatro (São Paulo). The award winner, taking home a prize of €3,000, Isabelly Girotto Pucci, was the creator of the environmental awareness programme, which, in cooperation with the town hall, rolled out collection points for used oil in public buildings to prevent their incorrect discharge into the water sanitation network. As a result, it has possible to convert the material collected into detergent and powder detergent, which has subsequently been donated to charities.

This topic also saw the Committee for the Best Innovative Idea give awards to 3 teams from GS Inima. Pursuing common goals and sharing projects is just one more element for which the entire company deserves recognition, as we have worked as a team, pooling knowledge and skills to offer the best solution that helps GS Inima to achieve better results.
