GS Inima, together with GS E&C, will develop the first large-capacity desalination plant in South Korea. On September 10, 2021, K-Water, Korea Water Resources Corporation, has selected GS Inima, through its parent company GS E&C, for the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of the Daesan Seawater Desalination Plant. The contract is valued at an amount of approximately 200 million euros and it is estimated that it will start operating in the second half of 2024. The Daesan plant will be the first large-capacity desalination plant in South Korea, reaching 100.000 m3/day.
The project, which will begin in October of this year, will supply the Daesan industrial area. The city of Daesan has one of the three major petrochemical industrial complexes in Korea. With 430 hectares, the Daesan Industrial Complex represents approximately 40% of South Korea’s petrochemical production. Thus, GS Inima continues to strengthen its international projection in Asia. This year the company will complete the acquisition of an asset in Vietnam, which represents a new boost to its presence on the Asian continent.
“The awarding of this contract in Korea is a milestone for GS Inima since it is our first desalination project in the country, the result of the collaboration between our shareholder GS E&C and GS Inima. We trust that this project will be one of the many, since we will continue betting on Asia, a market with great potential”.
