More than 20 projects in Latin America were presented at the event, in addition to analyzing the significant potential of this sector.
Madrid, March 31, 2022.– GS Inima has been present at the Fourth International Conference and Exhibition on Desalination in Latin America held between March 29 and 30 in Santiago de Chile, where more than 20 projects were presented, including some that are already underway and others in a state of progress. planning in the region. In turn, issues were addressed such as how to maximize effort and build an effective industry, case studies of implementation of the best desalination technologies and innovations, how to speed up project deployment.
GS Inima He contributed his experience of more than 60 years in the water sector by actively participating in the forum. To this end, the head of the Desalination area of the R&D&I Department, Belén Gutiérrez, led a presentation where examples of the good experiences he has had were shown GS Inima with different discharge systems in different contexts.
The brine generated during the desalination process is a topic of debate due to the possible environmental impacts that it can cause in the discharge area if the discharge system is not properly designed. The four examples presented: Atacama – Chile, Alicante – Spain, Carboneras – Spain and Hialeah – USA, confirmed that each discharge is unique and that a good design, and a deep knowledge of the receiving environment allow a perfect dilution of the brine in the vicinity of the discharge point within the near field of the saline plume. So It also complies with the most demanding regulations. In addition, environmental monitoring programs are essential, which allow monitoring of the receiving environment and corroborating that the design is complied with and there is no impact on the environment.
GS Inima In its commitment to innovation and the circular economy, it also seeks through different R&D projects, that the brine becomes a resource, as a source of energy and/or minerals. One of these projects is known as FOWE project that makes possible the recovery of energy from the brine of a seawater desalination plant through direct osmosis membranes.
