 The current WWTP facilities treat wastewater from a population of 148.000 inhabitants

The most common Sewage treatment plants, known as EDAR, are the responsible for cleaning the water used in cities for its subsequent return to the environment with a high quality, without causing harmful impacts. They are used to remove waste, floating grease and oil, sand,… It is an apparently simple definition, but to achieve this objective, The water must go through strict purification phases.

In 2012 it was decided to expand and remodel the facilities of the Segovia WWTP and with an investment of 21,6 million euros, it came into operation in April 2016 with the management of Acuaes, a work that allowed the treatment of wastewater from the city, from the neighboring municipalities of La Lastrilla and San Cristóbal de Segovia and from the industrial estates of El Cerro and Hontoria, ensuring that the effluents have the quality required by the European Union. The end result leaves no room for doubt; Neither does the data it returns. The volume of treated wastewater is 23.467 cubic meters per day, that is, about 8 and a half million cubic meters per year, and with a maximum treatment capacity of 41.280 cubic meters per day. 

The treatment capacity of the current plant corresponds to 92.880 equivalent inhabitants, with a maximum capacity of 147.920 equivalent inhabitants.
