ALGECIRAS
WasteWater Treatment
Algeciras WWTP, a long-demanded infrastructure in the southern region of Spain.
The WWTP treats water for a population equivalent to 212.000 inhabitants, with an average flow of 51.000 cubic meters per day. It has pretreatment, primary decantation, biological reactor, secondary decantation, sludge treatment, thermal drying, recovery of electrical energy from digestion gas, and tertiary treatment. One of the advantages of the treatment plant over a conventional treatment station is the biological reactor, which allows one stage of the water treatment process to be carried out in a smaller space. At 2,000 square metres, it takes up five times as much space as other stations.
