LAGARES

WasteWater Treatment

The largest biofiltration WWTP in Spain and one of the largest in Europe.

Lagares Wastewate Treatment Plant provides a solution to the serious pollution problems that the Vigo estuary presented and which had led to the European Union proposing the imposition of a high financial penalty on Spain for not meeting the quality required of water for shellfish farming. The WWTP achieves a discharge quality in accordance with the most demanding levels of European regulations. This facility is a benchmark in the sector, incorporating state-of-the-art technologies: thermal hydrolysis, thermal drying, cogeneration, Demon effluent nitrogen removal, etc.
